Essendon Baseball Club

JUNIOR INFORMATION SUMMER 2017

T-Ball                                                                                

  • Age 5-8 years old
  • A combination of drills and games, club based only
  • Friday evenings at Boeing Reserve, Strathmore (EBC home ground)

For Little League and Junior League, Essendon is part of the Northern Diamondbacks Charter. The Charter includes teams from Doncaster, Essendon, Fitzroy, Preston, Newport, Research, Werribee, Williamstown, and Sunshine.

Little League Minor

  • Age 8-12 years old
  • Home and away series on Friday evenings (expected to play Doncaster, Preston and Research)
  • Modified rules
  • Suitable for beginners or players with limited baseball experience
  • Train on Tuesdays

Little League Major

  • Age 9-12 years old (cannot turn 13 before 1 May 2017)
  • Home and away on Sunday mornings
  • Suitable for more experienced/skilled players, and a selection criteria may apply
  • Train on Tuesdays

Junior League

  • Age 12-14 years old (cannot turn 15 before 1 May 2017)
  • Minor and Major competition depending on Club entries and team numbers
  • Home and away on Sunday mornings
  • Training day/time is to be confirmed

Under 16’s

  • Players born in 2001 or 2002 (cut off is 31 December)
  • State and Metro League
  • Home and away on Sunday mornings
  • Train on Tuesdays at 4.30pm

Under 18’s

  • Players born in 1999 or 2000 (cut off is 31 December)
  • State and Metro League
  • Home and away series on Sunday mornings
  • Train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with Seniors

Training will commence the week beginning 5 September.  

Friday games are expected to commence on 7 October and Sunday games on 9 October. Friday night games start at 6.15pm and Sunday morning game time is typically 9am. Players are generally expected to be at the ground 45 minutes to an hour prior to the scheduled start time for warm-up. This will be confirmed by the Team’s coach.

Parent Help

To support our Coaches and teams, parent help is required and welcomed at training and especially at home games for set-up, scoring, pack-up and canteen duties. Each team will be required to have a Team Manager. Baseball knowledge is not a necessity! If you are willing to put your one ninth in please contact Kay Ferguson on 0419 337 949.

Registration and Fees*

It is important to register as soon as possible so that players can be allocated to a team and teams can then be entered into the right competition. Fees include an insurance component and must be paid by the first game.

*except for T-ball the fees include a fundraising levy.

Uniform

T-Ballers wear the EBC red undershirt and cap.

Junior teams wear the red undershirt, the EBC black playing top, white pants, black belt and socks, and cap. The black playing top is not compulsory for the Friday night players. Uniforms can be ordered today or online.

Northern Diamondbacks Academy

Little League and Junior League players will have the opportunity, through a selection process, to participate in the Northern Diamondbacks Development Academy. This involves additional training and playing opportunities against other Charters on Saturday mornings. The cost of the Academy is an additional $240 (TBC). Try-out dates and details will be made available.

Tournaments

Players at all levels also have the opportunity to try out for the Northern Diamondback’s All Star teams which compete in the State Championships against other Charters. The Junior League and Senior League Tournaments are held end of January and the Little League Tournament is held in April. In addition Under 16s and U18s may try out for State selection for the National Championships. The details have yet to be confirmed and participation in tournaments also involves additional costs.
